This month the focus in on leading by example. I think you can agree that the world needs more true leaders. People that are worth following not because they have a title but because they set a high standard for others by how they live each day. This week is about accepting personal responsibility.
Quote
"Embrace responsibility as a privilege, not a burden. It is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world around you." - Unknown.
When you were little you probably from time to time blamed a sibling or friend for a misdeed. This was done to try to avoid some sort of punishment or maybe ridicule. Unfortunately, as you grow older the habit is continued unless you make a conscious decision to be better than that. You are truly responsible for 100% of our life. Sure, there are circumstances out of our control, however, how you handle that circumstance is completely your choice.
Today's Coaching Challenge
Take an honest look at your life to see if you have broken this habit. I don't know of anyone who is at 100% all the time, however, with practice you can make taking responsibility your default as opposed to blaming others.
The quotation states that taking responsibility is not a burden but an opportunity, how so? When you blame someone or something else you are surrendering control of your life and wasting a lot of your precious life energy. You are a fallible human being, and you may not always do your best.
Action to take
Take some time today to see if you are not taking responsibility in your life and blaming others. Are you afraid of a consequence or punishment? Then decide how you would prefer to act. Lastly, don't beat yourself up, you are a work in progress and always doing the best you can at any given moment.
Always supporting you, Jan
