In March we are looking at gratitude which is so much more than just listing what you are grateful for. It is living in an attitude of gratitude, so, let's explore that further. This week is about finding the silver lining during the tough times so you can turn challenges into opportunities.
"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us." - Helen Keller
Helen Keller was blind and deaf after contracting an illness at 19 months old, yet she learned braille, and other ways to communicate. During her life she accomplished more than most of us will ever imagine. Think about this though, here was a toddler in rural Alabama in 1882 that could not see or hear and could have easily been discarded from society. However, with the help of others she transcended those disabilities and went on to inspire millions.
Today's Coaching Challenge
What opportunities are you not seeing right now because you're too focused on something that didn't work out for you? Imagine the possibilities if you look forward and not to the past.
We all face challenges, that's just part of life. However, when you open your eyes to possibilities and not failure you can look to the future with eager anticipation. Will you be learning a valuable lesson, greatly improving your family relationships, or perhaps getting a new business partner or client; anything is possible.
Action to take
Think back to the last time you were disappointed, did you feel sorry for yourself and have a pity party, or did you realize that it was just a part of life and pivot to create new results? If your response was the former, then decide how you would rather respond in the future.
Always supporting you, Jan
