PERSONAL NOTE
What some of you don't know is that I am kind of a science nerd; interested in quantum physics, quantum mechanics, astrophysics and things like that. With that in mind I recently bought tickets to see Neil deGrasse Tyson, a world-renowned astrophysicist coming to San Diego next February. I'm very excited about this event. My friends know that I am a renaissance woman, and I just told you about the nerdy part but what about that MudGirl Run I mentioned last month, well on Nov 22nd I got down and dirty literally. See picture below article. So much fun I will do it again next year.

A Moment for you--Finally
December has a way of arriving with enthusiasm — full schedules, full inboxes, full expectations, and occasionally a full cart of things you didn’t plan to buy but somehow needed. It’s the month when life gets noticeably louder and faster. And yet, tucked inside all that motion is an invitation we often overlook: the invitation to welcome stillness and silence. Not dramatic, mountaintop stillness, not hours of meditation or disappearing into the woods. Just simple, grounding moments where the world softens for a breath or two and you reconnect with yourself.
Here's why stillness matters even more in December. Many of us move through this month on autopilot — reacting, juggling, and trying to keep up with commitments, traditions, and deadlines. It’s incredibly easy to assume that slowing down is a luxury, or that silence is something we’ll “get to later.”
But stillness is not a luxury. Silence is not an indulgence. They are practical tools for clarity, resilience, and emotional steadiness — the very skills we need most during a demanding season. When you step into even a small moment of quiet, your nervous system resets. Your thoughts organize themselves. You shift from reacting to responding. And that tiny shift can change the tone of your entire day. You don’t need hours of free time to welcome stillness, try creating micro-moments of peace. You just need — simple, intentional pauses that help you catch your breath and return to center.
Here are a few easy ways to build them in:
- Take 60–90 seconds in your parked car before going inside. Hands on your lap. eyes closed. No radio, no phone — just a quiet reset.
- Enjoy the first sip of your morning coffee in silence. Notice the warmth and allow yourself to be fully present for that one moment.
- Pause for a single slow inhale and exhale before responding to an email or text.
- Look out of a window between tasks and let your shoulders drop away from your ears.
These micro-moments are small, but they accumulate. They create pockets of spaciousness in days that often feel overloaded. December brings noise — external and internal. Notifications, commitments, holiday music everywhere you go… even our thoughts seem to go faster this time of year. Silence lets you reboot. It clears mental clutter and brings you back to yourself.
Consider trying:
- Turning off non-essential phone notifications until January (your future self will thank you).
- Taking a five-minute walk without earbuds or distractions.
- Create a small “quiet corner” at home, even if it’s just a chair and a soft blanket.
- Gently say “I need a few minutes,” when your energy feels stretched thin.
Silence doesn’t mean the world has stopped. It simply means you’re choosing calm, even for a moment. Stillness makes you stronger. It’s easy to believe that December requires constant motion. But the real strength comes from knowing when to pause.
Quiet moments help you navigate busy days with more grace, clearer thinking, and a steadier internal pace. You reconnect with your values, your humor, and your humanity — all of which can get overshadowed when the calendar fills up. And the people around you benefit, too. When you’re grounded, you’re more present, more patient, and more authentically yourself.
Create a gentle intention for this month. Instead of striving to “get everything done,” you might consider a softer intention:
“I will make space for quiet, even in the middle of the busy.”
Maybe that quiet will last a minute. Maybe it will become your favorite new practice. What matters is the permission you give yourself to pause — and the restoration that follows.
As we close this year, my hope for you this December is simple:
- May you find peace in the small pauses.
- May you allow yourself moments of silence without guilt.
- And may you remember that calm isn’t something you wait for — it’s something you create, one breath at a time.
Wishing you a month that includes all the joy, meaning, connection, and is a little quieter than you expected.
