You can have plenty of time available and still struggle to get something done. Sometimes the problem isn't your schedule at all. Something has quietly drained the energy you needed to use that time well.
Quote
“The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” — Stephen Covey
Energy drains aren't always obvious. An overloaded schedule or poor night's sleep can certainly leave you depleted, but so can an unresolved disagreement, a decision you keep postponing, worrying about something you can't control, or repeatedly saying yes when you really want to say no. The challenge is that you can become so accustomed to certain drains that you stop noticing them. You assume you're tired because you're busy when a particular situation, habit, or relationship may consume far more energy than you realize.
Today's Coaching Challenge
What consistently leaves me feeling more depleted than it should?
Pay attention to your energy before and after certain activities, conversations, or parts of your day. You may discover the task you've been blaming isn't the problem. Perhaps it's the interruptions surrounding it, or the mental energy you're spending on something that has already happened. Awareness gives you the opportunity to make a different choice.
Action to take
Identify one recurring energy drain this week and decide what you can do to reduce its impact.
You may not be able to eliminate it completely—and you don't have to. Even plugging one small leak can leave you with more energy for something that matters.
Always supporting you, Jan
