Improving optimism starts with shifting focus to the positive aspects of life, even in challenging times. You can train your mind to see opportunities instead of obstacles. Small, consistent efforts can build a resilient and hopeful outlook that enhances both your mental well-being and your ability to achieve goals.  Control what you can and let go of the rest.

"You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength." – Marcus Aurelius

Let’s face it: life can feel like a chaotic circus, complete with flying monkeys and the occasional runaway elephant. But here’s the trick—while you can’t control the monkeys, you can control how you react to them. Time to shift your energy to what’s within your control and let go of what’s not.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Are there areas of your life where you’re trying to control the uncontrollable?  What would happen if you redirected that effort to things you can influence?

Here’s the magic: This small shift in focus can transform how you handle challenges. Instead of wasting energy on things outside your influence, you’ll channel it into actions that make a real difference.

Action to take

Make a list with two columns. Label one “Things I Can Control” and the other “Things I Can’t Control.” Now, start filling them in.  Here are some ideas to get you started.  In the “can control” column, include things like your attitude, how you spend your time, and what you say “yes” or “no” to. Then in the “can’t control” column, jot down things like, other people’s opinions, the weather, or traffic.
