This month we are looking at things that can easily put you in a state of overwhelm and actions you can take to replace that state with the feeling of being empowered. This week we are exploring over-scheduling, something that is frequently a challenge for many during the holidays.
"Resist culture-induced overwhelm. Say "No" to over-scheduling."--Anon
It is so easy as life seems to be moving faster and faster to have your calendar fill up quickly. Suddenly, your days are packed with places to go and people to see. This used to be a common problem during the month of December now, it seems to be the case for every month of the year.
Today's Coaching Challenge
When you look at your calendar do you immediately start to get anxious? Are you thinking "If I make it through this month, it will be a miracle"?
If those are some of the thoughts going through your head it may be time to take a close look at each entry to see if it really deserves your time. Time is a limited commodity that is not replaceable so it shouldn't be wasted on things that have little value or could be done by someone else.
Action to take
You can start by finding things that can be delegated to others. For the remaining items use a scale of 1 to 10 to determine how much you either want to do something or you have to (such as a work requirement). For the items that have low value to you, do your best to cancel them. Going forward prior to making a commitment think of the 1 to 10 scale before adding it to your calendar.
Always supporting you, Jan
