With people getting so disconnected due to modern life and technology, it’s important to get back to some basic family values. Let’s take a look at that theme throughout the month. This week let's talk about making it okay to share feelings and thoughts.

Challenges aren't always apparent and, on the surface, especially if you are dealing to teenagers. So, creating a place that is safe to share problems and feelings is very important. Keep in mind that there may be things going on that won't be readily shared on the first go around.
Today's Coaching Challenge
When a family member shares, do you focus on listening without interrupting or do you rush to fix things? Take a moment to think about how good it feels when you are able to share without feeling like you are being judged.
Show understanding by summarizing what they’ve said and asking follow-up questions. If a challenge arises, take time as a family to discuss it and brainstorm solutions. Keep the focus on working together rather than placing blame.
Action to take
To get a conversation started you can try these questions: “What’s one thing that’s been on your mind lately?” or “What’s something that made you happy or frustrated this week?”
Always supporting you, Jan
