This month we are looking at things that can easily put you in a state of overwhelm and actions you can take to replace that state with the feeling of being empowered. This week the focus is on excessive social media use.
"Don't use social media to impress people, use it to impact people." --Dave Willis
Social media has morphed over the years from a nice place to visit with friends to sophisticated algorithms that track your every move. Just like Madison Avenue has influenced our buying decisions for years, social media has taken it one step further. The apps have developed ways to keep you so focused on the posts that you want to always be checking your device so you don't miss something.
Today's Coaching Challenge
Do you want to get your time back and feel like you have regained control? Do you feel like you need an intervention to stop spending hours on your media apps?
If this sounds like you, you are not alone. Vast amounts of money are spent conditioning you to spend a lot of time on your devices. However, is that how you want to spend the precious hours of your life?
Action to take
The first thing you can do is track how much time you spend on social media in one week. You might be surprised. Then look at the people and things in your life. Would you rather spend more time with them? Unplugging or greatly reducing your use isn't easy but it is doable.
Always supporting you, Jan
