Coco With Jan
This Christmas, I wanted to offer something a little different — love, joy, togetherness, and the quiet hope that lives inside this season, even when the world around us feels divided or uncertain.
Christmas has taken many shapes throughout history. Long before it became the celebration we know today, people gathered in the dark of winter to share food, laughter, warmth, and light. Families, friends, and neighbors would join together — not because they agreed on everything, but because community mattered. Connection mattered. The act of coming together mattered.
By the 4th century, December 25th became a widespread celebration of the birth of Jesus — a story grounded in hope, humility, love, and the belief that even the smallest light can guide the way. Over time, traditions grew, evergreens began to symbolize resilience, carols to lift spirits, candles to brighten dark nights, and the simple joy of giving.
Today, in a world where division, fear, and loud rhetoric can drown out kindness, those traditions feel more important than ever. Christmas reminds us that love still exists in abundance — often quietly, in the smallest gestures. A shared meal. A warm smile. A moment of understanding. A softening of the heart.
And the truth is this: Love is not fragile. Joy is not limited. And connection can happen even when opinions differ.
This season invites us back to one another — back to generosity, compassion, and the understanding that we are far more alike than we are different. It calls us to listen with kindness, speak with respect, and choose grace even when it isn’t easy. That is the real heart of Christmas.
Wherever and however, you’re celebrating this year, my wish is that your days are filled with love, gentleness, good food, shared laughter, and moments that remind you of what truly matters.
May your home feel warm. May your heart feel full. May joy show up in small, beautiful ways. And may you feel connected — to your family, your community, and the world around you — even if our opinions don’t always match.
This season offers all of us a chance to soften, to open, and to remember that kindness is powerful, healing, and contagious.
I’m deeply grateful to each of you for the love you bring to my life matters more than you know.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and warm holiday wishes to all.
