This month's newsletter is about setting limits/boundaries. So my Java's will be about setting boundaries for technology, work, and food. Not creating clear boundaries can cause stress and since I'm all about helping you reduce stress let's go deeper into these topics.
It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity. - Albert Einstein
It might have even been too much for Albert to imagine that not only would computers exist but we would be able to hold one in our hand. Just a few months ago I watched the live spacewalk of the first female astronauts on the screen of my smartphone in the palm of my hand. I am happy to say that I have a healthy boundary with technology yet I know that is not the case for most people.
Today's coaching challenge
Do you have control of your technology or do your devices have control over you?
For some people, I expect that the answer might be a little hard to admit. With a device in hand, people go home, to work, into the bathroom, use it right before and just after sleeping, texting people sitting right next to them while out with friends, and on and on. Not only has the ding, tweet, or bell conditioned many to immediately stop what they are doing and respond but a lot of young people are not developing the social skills to help them later in life.
Action to take
With the exception of staying in touch with your family and what is needed for your job, I challenge you to take a technology break for 24 hours. There is life without social media and the internet and you might find you enjoy it.
Always supporting you, Jan
