Sometimes the reason a small request feels enormous… isn’t about the request at all. It’s about accumulation.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.” — Anne Lamott
Have you ever noticed how one small thing — one email, one comment, one added task — suddenly feels like the tipping point? That’s not a weakness. That’s critical mass. You may have been managing just fine. Handling responsibilities. Showing up. Keeping things moving. But quietly, things were stacking. Mentally. Emotionally. Logistically. And then one more pebble lands… and it feels like a boulder.
Today's Coaching Challenge
Is this current reaction about this moment — or about everything that has been building up underneath it?
When we hit critical mass, our nervous system is already stretched thin. It doesn’t take much to push us past capacity. The solution isn’t to criticize yourself for overreacting. It’s to recognize the buildup.
Sometimes the most helpful question isn’t “Why am I so sensitive?” but “How long have I been carrying this much?” Awareness changes the story. It shifts you from self-judgment to self-understanding.
Action to take
Pause today and ask yourself: What has been building quietly? Identify one pressure point and take one small relieving action — even if it’s just naming it.
Always supporting you, Jan
