This month, our discussions evolve around calming the chaos and reducing distractions. This can be more difficult for the younger generations since they have had keypads, screens, and social media their whole lives. It is nonetheless important to set aside time away from social media at least occasionally so you can see the sky or speak with the person right in front of you. This week let's practice being mindful and appreciating silence.
Quote
"Mindfulness isn't about emptying the mind, it's about being fully present with whatever is happening in the moment—even the silence." – Unknown
So, what exactly is mindfulness? One definition is: Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware in the moment, without judgment, focusing on your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. How many times have you eaten a meal and didn't even appreciate the flavors, smells, and textures because you were distracted by other things? If you were being mindful, you would notice things like the food was crunchy, sweet, or spicy because you would have stopped what you were doing so you could enjoy the food.
Today's Coaching Challenge
In what ways could a few quiet moments each day enhance your awareness, change your relationship with stress, and help you respond rather than react?
You may have gotten so used to being constantly on the go that you have forgotten how to sit still and think about how you feel and what's going on in your life. Taking a little bit of time to settle yourself can become your superpower.
Action to take
Whenever you feel overwhelmed, pause for a brief, mindful moment. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and center yourself for a few seconds. This quick reset can help you regain focus and respond more effectively instead of reacting impulsively.
Always supporting you, Jan
