This month the topic is choices.  In my conversations with people, I have found that some people don't realize they have a choice about what happens in their life.  Many times, they feel trapped, without options, which is rarely the case. This week is about choosing tolerance with others.

"Men build too many walls and not enough bridges" -- Joseph Fort Newton

Building walls instead of bridges seems all too apparent when you turn on the news or go onto a social media site.  I know this doesn't apply to my readers because you are all a cut above but when did people start becoming so intolerant and judgmental of others?  Let's face it, we all have opinions and are entitled to them.  That doesn't make someone else wrong because their opinion differs from your own.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Is there an area of your life where you find yourself judging others even a little bit?  Does that serve you and make your life better?  Think of how freeing it could be to let go of the judgment and just live and let live.

I do not mean condoning violence and hateful rhetoric, but you can step out of its way and only take action to help solve the problem.  Don't get caught up in the crazy.  People are very frustrated and angry right now and may not realize the negative spiral they are on; however, you don't have to join them. Seek to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Action to take

If you find yourself interacting with someone who has strong opinions different than yours, use a couple of these questions when speaking with them.  "Tell me more about that".  "I'd love to understand where you are coming from."  Remember the axiom that you have 2 ears and 1 mouth, so hone your listening skills.  Even if you still don't agree with them, you can find out how they got to their opinion and they will feel heard.

Always supporting you,                                                                                                                                                                                                  Jan
