Having command over your life is an illusion as there is very little you can manage. That doesn't mean that you are subject to the whims of the world, there are things you can do to affect what happens to you. This week let's try staying adaptable to the things out of your control.
Quote
“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” – Dolly Parton
There are so many things you can't control that your best bet is to adapt and prepare for the situation. Such as, you find out that it's going to rain you take your umbrella and raincoat. What's the point of complaining about it because that won't change the weather even if you aren't happy about it. You are far more adaptable than you might realize. The reality is that you have been adapting your whole life even when you weren't aware it.
Today's Coaching Challenge
What is your default setting when you are faced with something that you can't control? Do you easily adapt or resist?
There is a saying I think from the 60's that says, "Go with the flow". Meaning to acknowledge what is happening and adjust accordingly. Think of a twig in a stream. If it's firmly wedged in its position the water just keeps hitting it over and over again. Yet, if that same twig were to get dislodged it would just float along the surface with ease.
Action to take
When faced with changes that are out of your control, take a moment to acknowledge that you can't change them then ask yourself what you can do to adapt.
Always supporting you, Jan
