You never really know what someone else is going through. As you move through your day, you encounter people in all kinds of settings—at work, at home, running errands, or in brief passing moments. Most of the time, you see what’s on the surface. A smile. A quick response. Someone handling their responsibilities just like you are. But what you don’t see is everything they may be carrying behind the scenes.
Quote
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” — Plato
People don’t walk around with signs explaining their stress. They show up, do what needs to be done, and keep moving forward. That means your tone, your patience, and your response matter more than you might realize—especially on a day when someone is already feeling overwhelmed. When you assume everything is fine, it’s easy to respond quickly or react without much thought. But when you shift your perspective—even slightly—you begin to approach interactions differently. You listen a little more carefully. You respond with a bit more patience. And often, that changes the entire dynamic of the conversation.
Today's Coaching Challenge
How might your interactions change if you assumed everyone you meet is carrying something heavy?
Take a moment to consider that. What would it look like to pause before responding? To soften your tone just a bit? To choose understanding instead of reacting quickly? This small internal shift has a powerful ripple effect—not only for the other person, but for you as well.
Action to take
Today, lead with a little more patience than usual. Pause before reacting. Choose a response that leaves the other person feeling just a little better.
Always supporting you, Jan
