Have you ever sent a text or email too quickly and immediately wished you could pull it back? Most of us have. When emotions rise, patience tends to leave the room. Stress, frustration, exhaustion, and feeling misunderstood can all push us toward reacting before we’ve fully thought things through. The problem is that words spoken in emotional moments often leave lasting marks long after the emotions themselves fade. Sometimes a simple pause can change everything.

 Quote

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.” — Viktor Frankl

That small space is more powerful than most people realize. A pause gives your emotions time to settle. It gives your brain time to catch up with your feelings. It creates room for perspective, compassion, and clarity. And often, it prevents us from saying something we never truly meant in the first place.

The older I get, the more I realize that not every situation warrants an immediate reaction.

Today's Coaching Challenge

What situations in your life would improve if you gave yourself just a little more time before responding?

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is wait before replying to the text. Walk away from the conversation for a few minutes. Sleep on the email draft. Take a breath before assuming someone’s intentions. A pause is not avoidance. It’s wisdom. And honestly, some of life’s biggest regrets could have been prevented by a ten-minute cooling-off period and a snack. Let’s not underestimate the power of food and emotional stability.

Action to take

This week, practice creating a small pause before reacting during stressful moments. Even one deep breath before responding can completely shift the outcome of a conversation.
