There are days when I reach the end of the day and wonder where all my energy went. It usually isn't because I accomplished too much—it's because I gave too much attention to things that didn't deserve it. I've learned that protecting my peace begins with deciding what earns my attention.
"The things you think about determine the quality of your mind." — Marcus Aurelius
Your attention is one of your most valuable resources. Unlike money or time, once it's spent on unnecessary worry, drama, or frustration, you can't get it back.
Every day, people, situations, and distractions compete for a place in your mind. Some deserve your attention. Many simply ask for it. The more intentional you become about deciding where your focus belongs, the calmer and more productive you'll feel.
Protecting your peace doesn't mean ignoring life's responsibilities. It means refusing to let everything become equally important. When you stop giving your energy to things you can't control, you have more to invest in the people and priorities that truly matter.
Today's Coaching Challenge
What has been demanding your attention lately that really hasn't earned it?
Think about where your thoughts have been spending their time. Is there a conversation you've replayed over and over? Someone else's opinion you've given too much weight? A situation you can't change? Simply becoming aware of where your attention goes is often the first step toward reclaiming your peace.
Action to Take
Several times today, pause and ask yourself, "Does this deserve my attention?" If the answer is no, intentionally redirect your focus to something that supports your well-being or moves you closer to one of your goals.
Always supporting you, Jan
