Quote
“When you give and receive compliments, you are making the world a brighter place.” — Unknown
Compliments can be given for a specific reason, such as getting good service or randomly noticing something about someone and letting them know, such as "You have a beautiful smile". Don't you think that a person who is told that they have a great smile is going to smile even more, of course they will. It's important to remember to always be sincere in your compliments as insincerity is easily spotted and creates a negative effect.
Today's Coaching Challenge
If you rarely give compliments to others, what might be holding you back from giving them, and how can you overcome these barriers?”
It is equally important to graciously receive a compliment as the other person is giving you a verbal gift. As an example, when complimented about your outfit your response should be something like "Thank you I like it too" as opposed to "Oh, this old thing". You might be surprised to learn how many people respond in a negative fashion. It is a little like someone handing you a gift and you just throw it in the trash.
Action to take
If giving compliments in the past has been a challenge for you decide to find one person today that you can compliment. It could be about their physical appearance, their attitude, or perhaps an accomplishment. When you give it a little thought you should be able to find something nice about most everyone.
Always supporting you, Jan
