The key to getting someone to do something is to inspire them to want to do it. So, how can you encourage people to feel motivated to take action for you? How do you strengthen your ability to influence and persuade others effectively?  Let's look at another way to build influence this week.

"People are more likely to do what others are already doing; this is the principle of social proof." — Robert Cialdini

When people are on the fence, they often look at what others are doing. You can totally ride this wave by sharing how others have benefited from your ideas or suggestions. Whether it’s through glowing testimonials, success stories, or just a casual “everyone’s doing it,” showing that others have already jumped on board can make more people want to follow your lead.

Today's Coaching Challenge

How can you leverage success stories or testimonials to show others the positive impact of your ideas, making them more likely to follow your lead?

There is so much power behind social proof when it comes to influencing others.  How receptive would you be to trying a new restaurant if your friend says, “I’ve never been there” or “Everybody says is a fabulous restaurant”?  You would probably accept what “Everybody says” even though you don’t know who they are.

Action to take

Reach out to those who’ve benefited from your ideas, ask for their feedback, and compile it into a handy collection to share in meetings, on social media, or in your communications.
