This month we are looking at building your ability to bounce back after unexpected events in your life.  We all face challenges some are small, others are big, and some are life changing.  There are people and resources available to help you through the more serious events.  The good news is there are many things you can do for yourself to get you through the smaller challenges. This week is about taking responsibility, tackling a situation, and taking action.

"No matter how bleak or menacing a situation may appear, it does not entirely own us.  It can't take away our freedom to respond, our power to take action." ---Ryder Carroll

You have probably heard about the "Fight or Flight state", well there is a 3rd part to that and that is "Freeze", a state of inaction.  I bet if you think back to a time when you faced a challenge and felt like it was out of your control that you were just seating around thinking about the problem.  Once you start to move and take some action regarding the challenge you will usually feel differently about it.  The action might be something as seemingly minor as calling someone to say I need help with this, or it might be creating a plan to revamp your entire company.  The key is taking action.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Are you a person that defaults to the Freeze state more than the Fight or Flight?  Is there something in your life right now that you would like to change yet you have felt powerless?  Think of how empowering it would feel to know that you have options, there is something you can do about it.

Start by deciding that you want to change whatever it is and think with the end in mind.  How do you want to feel or what do you want to experience when it has been resolved?

Action to take

What small first step could you take today to start moving towards the resolution of the problem or challenge?  Do you need to brainstorm ideas, delegate part of the tasks?  When you start looking for solutions you open yourself to countless possibilities.

Always supporting you,                                                                                                                                                                                                  Jan
