The days of life being slow and easy are a thing of the past for most people.  It seems that everyone's "To Do List" just keeps getting longer and longer.   Just like a hamster in a wheel, it doesn't matter how fast you run because you just keep feeling like you're getting nowhere.  So, let's look at ways to stop the hamster wheel so you can get more done and feel good about it.  This week is about being overwhelmed.

"You don't have to figure everything out today.  You don't have to solve your whole life tonight.  And you don't have to tackle everything at once. You just have to show up and try.  You just have to focus on the most immediate thing in front of you.  And you have to trust that you'll figure out the rest along the way." -- Daniell Koepke

Overwhelm can come on quickly when you look at a large list of tasks to be done.  In all likelihood, many of the items are not important and would not affect your life if they were not completed.  It's easy to start listing your necessary items. However, frequently you don't stop until you have listed everything you can think of including things that need to get completed not today but maybe in 30 days.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Wouldn't it be wonderful to feel like your day was productive and you accomplished what you set out to do? Think of how enjoyable your evening would be if you felt successful and empowered.

We greatly overestimate what can be done in a single day which sets us up to feel like we failed.  Take the pressure off by only having your most important items on your list.  If the most important thing will take more than a day to complete, then only have one item on your list.  Consider changing the name of the list from "To Do List" to "What I Will Do Today" with a maximum of three things.

Action to take

What are your three most important things to complete today?  From those, commit to working on the most challenging one first not the easiest.  When those are done add three more but keep your list short.

Always supporting you,                                                                                                                                                                                                  Jan
